Gua Sha
What is Gua Sha?
Gua Sha is the method of using a smooth-edged tool to stroke the skin while pressing on it. This can raise small, red, rash-like dots on the skin called petechiae. It can reduce inflammation which is commonly seen in chronic pain or treat internal problems, such as respiratory infection. You may have heard of this modality called Graston as well.

Gua Sha is added to acupuncture treatments when deemed appropriate by the acupuncturist.
Here in the Western part of the world, licensed acupuncturists often offer gua sha. Instead of gua sha, you might hear it called the Graston technique.
